Child Safety Standards

1.Our position

Uyirmei has no tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation. Material that sexually exploits or endangers a child is prohibited on this service without exception, and there is no context — cultural, familial, artistic or otherwise — in which we will accept it.

This is not a matter of moderation preference. Producing, holding, sharing or seeking such material is a serious criminal offence in India, and we treat it as one.

These standards are published so that our members, our staff, Google, Apple and the authorities can all hold us to the same text.

2.Uyirmei is for adults only

Uyirmei is a matrimonial service for adults seeking marriage. Nobody under 18 may register, hold a profile, or be presented on this service in any way.

• Registration requires a date of birth and is refused unless the applicant has reached their eighteenth birthday. This is enforced when the account is created, not merely asked.
• A profile created by a parent or sibling on behalf of a relative is permitted only where that relative is themselves an adult, knows about the profile and agrees to it.
• Where we find that an account belongs to a person under 18, we close it and delete the profile and its photographs.
• Where somebody tells us they are under 18, we act on that statement. We do not require them to prove it first.

3.What is prohibited

The following are prohibited anywhere on Uyirmei — profiles, photographs, interest notes, messages, verification documents, and anything said to our staff:

• Child sexual abuse material, in any form, including drawn, animated or computer-generated depictions and material altered to appear to show a child.
• Sexualising a child in words or images, including sexualised description of a real child known to the member.
• Grooming: befriending or building trust with a child for sexual purposes, or attempting to arrange contact with a child for those purposes.
• Soliciting, offering, trading or advertising sexual material or sexual contact involving a child.
• Offering, arranging or seeking the marriage of a person under 18, which is separately unlawful in India.
• Any use of Uyirmei to reach, identify or make contact with a child for a sexual purpose, whether or not that child is a member.

A photograph in which a child is the subject is not permitted on a profile at all, whether or not anything sexual is suggested by it. A matrimonial profile is about the adult whose profile it is.

4.What we do to prevent it

• Age is checked at registration, as described above, and a date of birth that would make the applicant a minor is refused.
• Every photograph is reviewed before any other member can see it. Nothing a member uploads becomes visible on the strength of the upload alone.
• Written content is screened automatically as it is submitted, and rescanned when our rules change, so that material written under older rules is looked at again rather than left alone.
• Profiles may be identity-verified against official documents, and verification evidence is handled as sensitive material.
• Child safety is a reporting category in its own right, so a report of this kind identifies itself the moment it is made rather than arriving as an ordinary complaint about content. Reports reach a moderation queue staffed by our own people, every one of them is read by a person rather than closed automatically, and this category is escalated ahead of the rest of that queue.

Automated screening is an aid and not a substitute. Every removal and every account closure under these standards is decided by a person.

5.How to report it

Anybody can report this to us, whether or not they are a member of Uyirmei and whether or not they are signed in.

• From inside the app or the website: open the profile or the conversation, choose Report, and select “Child safety” as the reason. It is the first option in the list. Blocking the member as well stops any further contact.
• By email, including from outside Uyirmei: childsafety@uyirmei.in. This address is monitored and is the fastest route to a person for this category.
• To our Grievance Officer under the Information Technology Rules 2021: Varalakshmi K, grievance@uyirmei.in. Grievances are acknowledged within twenty-four hours.

If a child is in immediate danger, contact the police on 112 or Childline India on 1098 first. Please report it to us as well, but do not wait for us.

Reports may be made in confidence. We do not tell the member who was reported who reported them.

6.What we do when we find it

• The material is removed from view immediately, before any further assessment.
• The account is suspended, and on confirmation it is terminated. We do not issue a warning for this category and we do not restore the account.
• We preserve the material, the account records and the associated logs for the authorities rather than deleting them, and we do not return the material to the member.
• We report the matter to the appropriate authorities in India, including through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at cybercrime.gov.in, and we cooperate with law enforcement requests relating to it.
• We take reasonable steps to prevent the same person returning under a new account.

7.Legal compliance

Uyirmei Technologies Private Limited operates from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, and complies with the law applicable to child protection there, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, section 67B of the Information Technology Act 2000, the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021, and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006.

Where a member is outside India, we comply in addition with the child protection law applicable to them, and we cooperate with lawful requests from the authorities of that country.
