Delete Your Account

You can delete your Uyirmei account at any time, from the app or from this website, without asking us first. This page explains how, and exactly what deletion does — it sits alongside our Privacy Policy and our Terms & Conditions, and where they describe the same thing they are meant to say the same thing.

1.In short

  • You can delete your Uyirmei account yourself, from the mobile app or from this website. You do not need to write to anyone or wait for approval.
  • It takes effect immediately. Your profile stops being visible the moment it is done, and there is nothing left to sign in with.
  • It cannot be undone. If you want a copy of your data, download it first — the privacy centre gives you one as a file, on demand.
  • A few records survive without your name on them, because they are also somebody else’s: messages and interests you exchanged, safety reports, and the payment and tax records the law obliges us to keep.
  • If you cannot sign in, write to privacy@uyirmei.in from the email address on the account and we will do it for you.

If you only want to stop being shown to other members for a while, you do not need this page — pause your profile search instead, and everything is still there when you come back.

2.Deleting from the mobile app

In the Uyirmei app on Android or iOS:

  • Sign in, and open Privacy & account from your account menu.
  • Scroll to the account section and choose Delete account.
  • Enter your password to confirm it is you, and tell us why if you would like to — the reason is optional.
  • Confirm. You are signed out of every device, and the account is gone.

3.Deleting from this website

On uyirmei.in:

  • Sign in and open Settings.
  • Under Account lifecycle, choose Delete Account.
  • Enter your password to confirm, add a reason if you want to, and confirm the deletion.

The same request is carried out either way: the app and the website run the same deletion, and it makes no difference which one you use.

4.If you cannot sign in

Write to privacy@uyirmei.in from the email address registered on the account, with the subject “Delete my account”. We will check that the request comes from the account holder before we act on it — if we cannot verify it from the email address alone we will ask you for something more, and we will not delete an account on the strength of a request we cannot place.

We acknowledge within twenty-four hours and complete a verified request within seven working days. There is no charge for this, and we do not ask you to explain yourself.

If you are not satisfied with how a request was handled, our grievance officer is Varalakshmi K, at grievance@uyirmei.in, or by post at M801, Akshaya January Apartments, Thaiyur, Chennai - 603103.

5.What is deleted

Deleting your account removes, permanently:

  • Your profile — your name, date of birth, community and family details, education and work, horoscope fields, your written introduction, and every photograph you uploaded, from our database and from storage.
  • Your partner preferences, saved searches, shortlists, dismissed profiles and recently viewed profiles.
  • Your privacy and notification settings, and the recommendation sets built for you.
  • Your sign-in credentials and every session, on every device. Nothing is left to sign in with.
  • Your notification registrations — browser push subscriptions and mobile device tokens — and the notifications we had sent you.
  • Blocks you had placed, and blocks placed on you: an account that can no longer act needs no blocking.
  • Any identity, education or employment document still held for a verification review.
  • If you were a Select member, your matchmaker assignment and everything hanging off it — the working notes about your search, the curated introductions, the follow-ups and the appointments.

Your account row itself is emptied rather than removed: your name becomes “Deleted member”, your email address is replaced with an unroutable one, and your phone number and photograph are cleared. What is left is a reference with nobody behind it.

6.What is kept, and why

Some records are not only about you, and deleting your account does not delete somebody else’s copy of a thing that happened. These survive, attached to the emptied account rather than to your name:

  • Interests and messages you exchanged, and the conversations holding them — a message is equally the record of the member on the other side of it. They show as coming from a deleted member.
  • Reports you filed and reports filed about you, and moderation flags raised on your account. Evidence about somebody’s safety has to outlive the account that caused it, and this is what stops a removed member from returning under a new one.
  • Audit entries recording staff actions. Each keeps the email address and role it recorded at the time, so it still says who did what.
  • Payment orders, memberships, coupon redemptions and the tax records behind them, for as long as tax and company law requires. Card, UPI, netbanking and wallet details never reached us in the first place — those are held by the payment provider.
  • Consent records, which are the proof of the lawful basis we relied on and are append-only by design.
  • The fact that a verification review happened and how it was decided. The document itself is destroyed.

None of these carries your name, email address, phone number or photograph once the deletion is done. Backups made before the deletion are overwritten on their own schedule and are not used to restore a deleted account.

This is the same list as the “How long we keep it” section of the Privacy Policy, which is where the detail lives.

7.Before you delete: a copy, or a pause

The privacy centre will give you a download of your personal data as a JSON file, on demand and without charge. Take it before you delete, not after — once the deletion is done there is nothing left to export.

And if what you want is a break rather than an ending, pause your profile search instead. A paused profile is hidden from search and from other members’ recommendations, your data stays exactly as it is, and you can reactivate it yourself whenever you like. Pausing is in the same place as deletion, on both the app and the website.

Deleting your account does not by itself cancel or refund a membership you have already paid for. What is and is not refundable is on the refund policy.
